Walks & treks

Papua New Guinea provides countless opportunities for amazing walks and treks. Everything depends on your strength, preferences, time and determination. Wherever you decide to go, you will live out your own Indiana Jones fantasy, blazing off the beaten track, as Papua New Guinea has been still undiscovered by mass tourism. Even more, you may not encounter a single traveller while on on the road! The most popular and adventurous, especially among Australians, is the 96 km long historical, Kokoda Track. It leads through a thick jungle, rushing rivers and slippery narrow ridges. Masochists will appreciate The Bulldog Track, crossing the western end of the Owen Stanley Range of Central Papua New Guinea. This trail is even longer, higher, steeper, wetter, colder and rougher than Kokoda Track, and has a reputation of being one of the greatest tropical mountain treks in the world. If you are into reaching summits, try the 4509 meter high Mt. Wilhelm, or the 4367 meter high Mt. Giluwe, the second highest peak in Papua New Guinea. Hiring experienced guides is always essential.
